The Procedure

Gamma Knife and microsurgery are complementary to each other. Sometimes, Gamma Knife is the preferred option. Often, strategic combination of microsurgery and Gamma Knife produce the best results, especially for large skull base tumors.

A typical procedure for an acoustic neuroma lasts for 3 hours.

Follow Up

The effect of Gamma Knife takes time. Typically, brain metastases take 1 to 2 months to respond, while benign tumors and AV malformations take 1 to 3 years. Some tumors may swell up slightly initially, followed by progressive shrinkage. Close follow up is part of the protocol to ensure good outcome.

Typical Results

1.Acoustic neuroma

2.AVM

3.Pituitary tumor
